As we enter a new chapter with the Labour Party in power, it’s crucial for Caribbean people to actively engage in politics and make their voices heard. Participation is key, whether through voting, joining local campaigns, or engaging with community groups that align with our interests.
It’s also essential to hold elected officials accountable, ensuring that they represent the unique challenges and aspirations of Caribbean communities.
However, there are nuisances that need to be filtered through. These include the often tokenistic representation of Black voices in politics and the barriers that prevent many from accessing political platforms. Additionally, the persistence of systemic racism, economic inequality, and issues around immigration must be confronted directly, rather than being sidelined in political discourse.
Caribbean people must push for meaningful policy changes—on education, housing, employment, and healthcare—that reflect our community’s needs, ensuring that the Labour Party’s promises translate into action for all.
