October Monthly Reflection: “Today’s working class is multi-ethnic, multi-faith, and multi-lingual.”

2021 Labour Party Conference ‘Black Lives Matter

As we enter Black History Month, I wanted to share a thought inspired by something I heard during the 2021 Labour Party conference. A speaker’s words deeply resonated with me, capturing thoughts I had struggled to articulate. Her brief but powerful speech made a lasting impression, not only because of her clear, unapologetic approach but also because of her focus on creating positive change.

She emphasized the importance of working with those committed to making a difference, rather than wasting energy on those unwilling to engage. Her message was simple: stop giving attention to those who resist progress, and instead, invest in those who want to drive change.

As a dedicated councillor, community activist, and trade unionist, her passion and commitment to her community are truly inspiring. I hope this reflection offers you some valuable insights and motivates you as much as it did for me.

Time is up to end the indignities, inequalities and injustices that Black people face in the workplace, our future generation depends on it”

Inspiring speech by UNISON National Equality Officer and Labour councillor Margaret Greer at the 2021 Labour Party conference.
